Elevating facilities management & aec creates healthy workplaces

The first step to a successful construction of space begins way before pen ever makes it to the construction paper. When we interviewed Brittanie Campbell-Turner and David Martinez about the state of the FM industry, they both shared one common theme – communication. The importance of including workplace leaders in discussions from building inception to completion is imperative to the success of the modern workplace. Here we discuss how FMs and AEC professionals can work together for the common good.

Workplace Project Management & AEC Insight

Brittanie Campbell-Turner  Podcast Host & Construction Enthusiast, The Constructrr Podcast

\”What\’s the mindset shift the owner or operator has to take? What is it that we have to do in order to start thinking strategically about? Whether it\’s data, whether it\’s the methodoligy, whether its a new process – what\’s the first step?\”

Familiar with the podcast world herself, Brittanie is a construction enthusiast, blockchain advocate, all while also serving as the host of \”The Constuctrr Podcast\” where she interviews AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) professionals and workplace leaders about the impact of construction projects on the built environment.

With an expertise in project management and move management, Brittanie talks about the need for flexibility within a project and the importance of equal collaboration between FM, HR and all other stakeholders during a construction project for it to be completed successfully. In her career, she has noticed that when all departments are included in the very beginning during initial workplace strategy – miles before the first plans are drafted – the end result is much better suited for the entire workforce.

We also discuss how lean construction and the blockchain thought process are more related than you\’d think, in terms of sharing information and allowing access by multiple parties. We came to the conclusion that especially in this technology disruptive age, how people continue to interact with each other is more important than ever.

Elevating Facilities Management

David Martínez, PhD  Global Director at FMHOUSE

\”When you think about facility management, an FM model can provide support to our office building but also to the industry, to a factory, to a hospital, to a hotel. All of them have an FM model and the content of this FM model is very different.\”

We had the pleasure of interviewing David Martínez the Global Director at FMHOUSE on World FM Day this year. An industry leader, and nicknamed the \”Dr. of FM\” his passion for the FM industry is apparent from the moment our discussion began. Calling in all the way from Madrid, Spain, David provides an interesting global perspective on the state of the built environment.

David firmly believes that we have to start talking about facilities management outside of the FM industry. As leaders and doers in this space, it is our duty to share the influence our field has on each and every building and workplace across the globe. This isn\’t exclusive to one country or another, but the broader knowledge of what FM can do is applicable to all industries.

In an interesting analogy, David compares the facilities management industry to nutrition and the various ingredients in food. While recipes may vary widely across the world, one thing that remains the same is the importance of nutrition. Facilities management may include different ingredients depending on where you\’re located, but the influence health and nutrition have on your organization is the same no matter where in the globe you reside.
